SUMMARY:Africa Family Night at the Zoo
DESCRIPTION:As the zoo transforms for an evening of discovery\, journey through some of the continent’s most fascinating habitats—from the dense rainforests of the Congo Rainforest and unique island environments of Madagascar and the Aldabra atoll\, to the expansive savannas and lively watering holes that support Africa’s iconic wildlife. \nDesigned for families of all ages\, this interactive evening will feature hands-on activities\, animal encounters\, educational stations\, games\, crafts\, and opportunities to learn about remarkable species such as gorillas\, lemurs\, giant tortoises\, hippos\, giraffes\, zebras\, and more! You’ll discover how animals adapt to their environments\, how ecosystems are connected\, and why conservation efforts are essential to protecting wildlife around the world. \nYou can be directly involved with conservation efforts! Bring old cell phones\, tablets\, and smart watches with you for recycling. The ABQ BioPark is a participating member of the Gorillas on the Line campaign\, which helps protect wild gorillas. Many electronics contain minerals that are mined in regions near gorilla habitats in Central Africa\, including the Congo Rainforest. By recycling your devices\, you help reduce the demand for newly mined materials while supporting gorilla conservation and environmental sustainability. Every recycled phone is a small action that can make a big difference for wildlife and their habitats! \nYou’ll also meet the zoo’s dedicated giraffe care team and learn how they help care for the BioPark’s giraffe herd. Giraffe branded merchandise will be available for purchase\, all funds will go directly to support giraffe conservation efforts. \nPlease note that only the Africa area of the zoo will be open\, the rest of the zoo will be closed. This event is for all ages\, explore the schedule of evening tours for adults 18 and over \n\n\nPrice\n\nPrice includes all taxes and fees. $17.05 adults\, $11.90 youth and seniors. NM BioPark Society Members receive a 10 percent discount. This event will occur rain or shine\, so please prepared for the elements. It is highly recommended that you come prepared with sunscreen\, insect repellent\, and a water bottle. Space is limited; advanced ticket purchase online is required. No walk-ins\, no refunds or transfers. Food will be available for purchase at this after hours event. Tickets will be timed entry at 5:30 pm or 6:30 pm\, check-in will start at 5:15 pm and the doors will close at 7:30 pm.

SUMMARY:Parent Journaling Club
DESCRIPTION:Parent Journaling Club (for parents of children of any age). Journaling is often a solo act\, but in a group setting it becomes a shared creative experience. Journaling is an easy way to practice expressing your thoughts without the commitment of writing a full story or book. Just show up\, write a little\, and see where the page takes you. You’ll write\, but sharing is always optional. Truly\, no pressure to share. Our group welcomes both brand-new journalers and seasoned writers alike. \nWhat Is a Journaling Club?\nJournaling is often a solo act\, but in a group setting\, it transforms into a shared creative experience. It is an easy\, low-stakes way to practice expressing your thoughts without the pressure of writing a full story or a book. You simply show up\, write a little\, and see where the page takes you. \nA journaling club offers camaraderie and a facilitated\, exploratory space filled with writing prompts (which you can follow\, riff on\, or completely disregard). These gatherings offer a shared space for creativity and conversation\, drawing inspiration from Suleika Jaouad’s work. Each meeting finds its own rhythm—sometimes funny\, sometimes deeply reflective\, but always meaningful. \nYou will write knowing that sharing is always optional. When we do invite sharing\, the focus is entirely on the process or any new insights that surfaced for you—not on reading your exact words aloud (unless you want to). Truly\, there is no pressure. Everyone is welcome—brand-new journalers and seasoned writers alike. \nWant to learn more? Check out my Substack post from June 11\, 2026\, Journaling: A Small But Mighty Parenting Practice at thequietskills.substack.com. \nRegister now for this no-cost event\, using the QR code in the event flyer!

SUMMARY:Omenka Igbo Cultural Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Jon us for this free cultural celebration. \n\nThe Igbo ancient civilization\, one of the pivotal cultures in West Africa\, showcases a rich history supported by fascinating archaeological discoveries. The Igbo people primarily inhabited the southeastern region of present-day Nigeria\, and their civilization dates back to at least the 9th century AD. One of the most significant archaeological sites is Igbo-Ukwu\, where excavations in the 1930s unearthed a wealth of artifacts that provide insight into the advanced nature of Igbo society. \nThe Igbo-Ukwu findings include intricately crafted bronze sculptures\, beads\, and pottery\, indicating a high level of sophistication in metalwork and artistic expression. These artifacts suggest that the Igbo were engaged in extensive trade networks\, exchanging goods with neighboring regions and possibly even distant cultures. The discovery of glass beads\, likely imported from the Middle East or Europe\, further supports this notion of extensive trade connections. \nAdditionally\, the presence of ceremonial objects and regalia points to a complex social structure with religious and political institutions. The craftsmanship and artistry of the Igbo people were not only functional but also carried significant symbolic and cultural meanings\, reflecting their rich spiritual beliefs and societal values. \nThese archaeological facts not only highlight the ingenuity and resilience of the Igbo civilization but also contribute significantly to our understanding of ancient African societies. As the 2026 Cultural Festival unfolds\, attendees will have the opportunity to explore these fascinating aspects of Igbo heritage\, celebrating a civilization that has profoundly influenced the cultural landscape of Africa and beyond.
